SPMU Frequently Asked Questions

What is Semi-Permanent Makeup?

Semi-permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation, is a cosmetic technique that employs tattooing to create makeup-like designs on the skin. This process involves inserting natural pigments into the dermal layer of the skin. It's commonly used for eyebrows, eyeliner, and lip colour enhancements. The results can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on factors like skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.

How Long Does Each Procedure Take?

The duration of each semi-permanent makeup procedure can vary. Typically, the initial session lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. This includes consultation, colour selection, and the application process. Touch-up sessions, which are usually done a few weeks after the initial application, may take less time. We recommend allocating sufficient time for your appointment to ensure the best possible results.

Is Semi-Permanent Makeup Painful?

The level of discomfort experienced during semi-permanent makeup procedures varies from person to person. Most clients report minimal discomfort. We apply a topical anaesthetic before the procedure to numb the area, which helps in reducing pain. It's important to communicate with your technician throughout the procedure to ensure your comfort.

How Long Does Semi-Permanent Makeup Last?

Semi-permanent makeup typically lasts between 1 to 3 years. The longevity depends on several factors, including skin type, exposure to sun, and skincare routines. Regular touch-ups are recommended to maintain the colour and shape. Over time, the pigment will fade, necessitating a refresh session.

What is the Aftercare for Semi-Permanent Makeup?

Proper aftercare is crucial for the healing process and longevity of semi-permanent makeup. After the procedure, avoid getting the area wet for at least a week. This includes sweating and swimming. Apply the aftercare ointment provided as directed, usually twice a day. Avoid sun exposure and refrain from using skincare products containing exfoliants or strong chemicals on the treated area. Full healing typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.

PRP Frequently Asked Questions

Does PRP hurt?

Some discomfort can occur during PRP injections or microneedling. Individual sensitivity varies, and appropriate comfort measures will be discussed where suitable.

How many PRP sessions will I need?

This depends on what we're treating and your individual response. PRP is often recommended as a course of treatment, with maintenance sessions potentially recommended afterwards. We'll discuss your personalised plan at consultation.

Can PRP help with hair loss?

PRP has been studied for certain types of hair loss, particularly androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss). However, hair loss has many possible causes and results vary — a consultation is important to establish suitability.

What are exosomes?

Exosomes are microscopic extracellular vesicles involved in communication between cells. Exosome-based products are an emerging area within aesthetics; we use ASCE+ and Atlantis products within selected protocols and will explain the specific product used during your consultation.

Is there downtime?

Temporary redness, tenderness, sensitivity, swelling or bruising may occur following treatment. Microneedling can also cause temporary redness, dryness, tightness or flaking. Full aftercare guidance will be provided.

Skin Treatments Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a consultation before a skin treatment?

Yes, most treatments begin with a short consultation and skin assessment so we can recommend the right option for your skin type, concerns and goals, and check for any contraindications.

Is there any downtime after skin treatments?

This varies by treatment. Facials and peels typically involve little to no downtime, while microneedling can cause temporary redness, tightness or flaking for a few days. We'll talk you through what to expect for your chosen treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

Many skin treatments work best as a course rather than a single session — this is common with microneedling, peels and laser tattoo removal in particular. We'll advise a realistic plan and frequency at your consultation.

Are these treatments safe for sensitive skin?

Most of our skin treatments can be adapted for sensitive skin, but suitability is assessed on an individual basis. Please let us know about any allergies, sensitivities or skin conditions when you book.

What aftercare is needed?

General aftercare usually includes daily SPF, avoiding harsh actives for a few days, and keeping the treated area clean. Specific aftercare advice will be given after your appointment based on the treatment carried out.
